My name is Tarek Shahrour I am a consultant in liaison psychiatry working in Sheikh Khalifa medical city for the last 12 years. I have also been the psychiatry residency training program director for over 11 years in the SKMC. 

I have graduated from the faculty of medicine, Damascus University in 1992. I have done my internship and did two years’ experience in internal medicine then I moved to Ireland where I pursued the career of psychiatry. I have joined the psychiatry training scheme of the royal college of surgeons in Ireland in 1997. At that stage I became a member of the royal college of psychiatrist in the UK and a member of the royal college of physicians in Ireland. I then finished the training and became a consultant in rehabilitation psychiatry in St. Brendan’s hospital, Dublin Ireland for two years. 

I then moved to another post where I was the leader of the psychiatric team caring for the homeless in northern Dublin inner city where I stayed for one year. I was also a lecturer in the university college Dublin at the same time. I then moved to the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where I founded and ran the psychiatric services in the National Guards Health Affairs in the Saudi eastern region. I stayed there for 5 years then I moved to my current post. I have a special interest in the stigma of psychiatry, psycho-somatization disorders and the use of cognitive analytic psychotherapy.
